Wood Lanterns

Wedding Prep starts months in advance, especially if you are doing a lot of decorating yourself. We were very fortunate to be able to borrow many things. But, of course, we had seen these wood lanterns on Pinterest, and we had to have some. Jamie Costigilo at jamiecostiglio.com had very good instructions and print outs of each step. I failed at taking pictures of putting them together or they got deleted, so……. If you need better instructions or a visual, I recommend looking at her page. Jamie’s instructions were on larger lanterns, and we needed something smaller, so we sized down.

Supplies for One Lantern

Cut List for one Small Lantern

  • 2 – 5/8″ square wooden dowel
  • 1 – 1′ x 6″ pine board
  • 1 1/4″ brad nails
  • 1 1/4″ wood screws
  • wood glue
  • Jig Saw
  • Brad gun
  • hammer
  • pliers to pull stray nails – LOL
  • sandpaper
  • 1 – 1 x 6″ base = 5 1/2″ base
  • 4 – 9″ corners = one dowel
  • 8 – 3 5/8″ cross pieces = 9 pieces
  1. Start by putting one side together. Attach 2 corner post to 2 cross supports using wood glue and finish nails.
  2. Put together another side.
  3. Use the 4 remaining cross post to attach the two sides together.
  4. Center this piece on your base and use screws to attach from the bottom of base. It would hurt to predrill so as to not cause a spilt in dowels or base.

We used a walnut stain. And pictured above are the wood slabs that would be used on each table. We had 20 of them. I got fancy on two lanterns, by adding a top. I am sorry! I cannot tell you how I did it, because I flew by the seat of my pants.

They were beautiful on the tables as centerpieces at the wedding. Both daughters have several and of course, I kept the most. We all use them for decor in our homes. These were a fun project, but I can say that was happy when we finished them.

As always, Thanks for dropping by. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
