Gel Stain Projects

Several years ago, we bought a house to flip. The house had an UGLY old shed right across the driveway next to the house. Originally, Bob thought he would move it to a better location. That shed was not going to move and not be destroyed! I decided to beautify it instead and let the new owners decide if it was a keeper or not. Personally, I don’t think anyone has ever said they have too much storage.

The shed was disgustingly nasty. First, it got a major power wash, which made it so much more presentable. There were also some places that needed repair, as can be seen in the picture on the right. Bob had to actually add some wood support inside in order to secure the siding. It was time to get stain. Since it was already an off color, I didn’t add a base color to this project. I don’t know if any of this added any value to the property, probably not, but it helped with the resale.

Looking from the end of the house across the driveway!

Supplies needed:

Minwax Gel stain in the color of your liking https://amzn.to/3BFAHeX

Several! Stiff paint brushes for gel stain like this one. https://amzn.to/3BGSqm6

Clean the surface and let dry. Use the stiff brush. I dipped right into the gel stain can and then paint in the direction you want the wood grain to appear to be. Work a small area and move on. Let it dry. Then apply a second coat only to areas needed!

The little building went from real Fugly to blending in! The Picture to the right is what was seen from from the road. I added a little greenery to help it blend in.

And since, I made the fugly shed into less than an eyesore, I had to do the garage door as well!
