Who is getting ready for a Fall wedding? Do you have all your ideas together? Did you hire a Planner? I know you have been on Pinterest! We had a really nice budget, but with the cost of venues and everything else, we had to DIY, borrow and do a lot of the set up and break down! Looking back, I would have hired a Day Coordinator to make sure that all vendors arrived and were in place. Everything went fine, except our caterer forgot the plates for the cake and we ended up using plates from the Dollar Store…….It wasn’t the end of the world, but I’m sure our guest was wondering what happened. And, I didn’t have the knives for cake cutting out of the box! But it was one of the funniest days and it was a gorgeous wedding.
First and foremost, Book your venue for the wedding! If you’re looking at Next fall, it is not too early to book. Oct is the new hot date!
Brianna wanted old doors, with an arch with tulle and pumpkins at the entry to the sidewalk that she would walk down to the house. I happened to know someone who had old doors. She offered to just loan them to me, but after cleaning, painting and adding braces, I decided to buy them. On a side note, these were really cool doors. There is like a lock that can be turned to remove the glass and replace with a screen for the hotter months.
Thank goodness, we have a really large garage to work in. It seemed to be filled from one end the other. We haven’t gotten to the lantern making yet. They will be in the next post.
The doors turned out beautiful and we thought we had a good plan with the braces at the bottom. The wind that day suggested otherwise and caused me being late getting my hair and makeup done.
The pumpkin planting happened right after the 4th of July! I watered and poisoned pumpkins to keep the bugs off of them. We picked pumpkins around the first of October, then I had to wash in a bleach solution. We didn’t have enough pumpkins! Of course, I knew that I wasn’t going to grow enough but it was fun to say I did grow some and they were used for decor. We had to make a drive to Dover, TN. A fireworks business there had sprinklers on a stick, not a metal rod. We found some great Chrysanthemums there as well. On the way back we stopped at a Pumpkin Farm, called Donnell Farms (no kin to us) and bought a bunch more pumpkins and gourds.
With out further ado. Here is the finished product. We were happy with how everything turned out. The wind gave us a fit, blowing the arch over, trying to blow the doors over. I was late getting ready. But the wind died down and I was ready in time.
The venue cost included the bridal party having use of the house all day. There are awesome rooms upstairs to get dressed in with lots of mirrors. The guys had their own little house out back, but later in the day were allowed in the den of big house. The venue provided set up of chairs and the wood arch, which we covered with tulle.
A lady from church put the flowers in the jars for us. Sign was borrowed! We placed it between the parking and seating.
This was the entry into the venue for the reception, dinner, dancing and party! The Welcome sign was made by my son-in-law’s mom. We found the huge Lantern, at a second market store. The Best Day Ever sign was brought from a friend. Weddings are expensive! Borrow what you can, Make what you can, Shop for bargains!
The venue has a cute little red car, that can be used in the weddings. It had stopped running. We were so disappointed, but luckily, we have some friends that have several cars. The car was used to transport the bride from the back of the house down to the aisle to walk down and of course, great photos.
